Freedom

Had a bad day yesterday... now the dumb line from the song "freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose" keeps running through my head...I think it is high time I blow this joint and find somewhere that I can go be around people today...

Gaaackkk! It's a houseful of chilluns!

Just what I needed today - a houseful of 10 year olds (3 of them). All of them smart. All of them friends since first grade, 2 girls, 1 boy. All playing off each other. S&F has been taking a ribbing this week about what she is eating - her friends (both Armenian)  think (or have been teasing her) that without bread and cake there is nothing to eat during Passover... little do they know... I can't wait for 7:30, when dinner is over and everyone goes home, so's I can breathe a sigh of relief... In the meantime, it's matzoh with charoses, gefilte fish, steamed broccoli, lamb, fresh Passover rolls and chocolate and dried fruit for dessert...well, time to start cooking...

I miss my teddy bear!

Bleah. Feeling really crappy. Got poisoned at lunch  by one of my favorite restaurants yesterday. Some damnfool cook made the cheese enchiladas with flour tortillas and I didn't recognize it until after the second bite. Mind you, I've been eating at this place for years, and have always been safe there. Rather bummed. Fortunately, somehow, I'm not getting my usual reaction - I hurt like the dickens, feel like I've been smacked by a mack truck - but  my GI symptoms are mercifully absent so far (and that's a good thing, as DH is traveling, and I have sole charge of S&F). This cause me to eat almost nothing at dinner last night, which was a pity - I like Cuban food, and couldn't even finish my favorite appetizer there (steamed yucca with garlic sauce - picture a slightly sweet, slightly stringy white potato drenched in a garlic and oil sauce).

Drove down to LAX last night to have dinner with cahwyguy and ellipticurve and to take cahwyguy to the airport for a business trip. Of course, this is after I spent a day I should have been resting out looking at housing and running numbers with our broker. Feh. We decided to walk on the two houses we were comparing, and keep looking. Finally got home in time to put S&F to bed, and watch some TV, and of course nothing worth watching is on. Read Spider Robinson instead, and crawled into bed early... and couldn't sleep. Woke up every 2 hours. Feh. I WANT MY TEDDY BEAR BACK (no, not the 3-foot stuffed panda that S&F swiped - the bearded, warm-blooded one. After all these years, it is kinda tough sleeping without him...)

A good day, and it's only 2 pm

Whew. Got everything done I had to do before I picked up S&F, and still had an hour to come back and relax and read CL and LJ before I have to go start the afternoon rounds! Yeah, it's been a good day. Even the freeway cooperated! Think it was easy? think again - today's rounds took me from Chatsworth to the City of Industry, with stops in Northridge and Burbank for good measure (and gas!). I now have a clean car again (inside and out) - gee it's actually white with clean glass, and the interior no longer looks like a "mom-mobile"! Had time for breakfast with the parents, and a quick, but yummy, lunch on the run. I have my tableware for Sunday night, cahwyguy has his stationery supplies, and S&F has the non-perishables needed for her science project. All this and a clean car, too. I love it! Well, time to get ready for the next set of rounds - North Hills to El Segundo to Irvine, in the height of the afternoon rush! What fun! That's okay. I'm going to get my car pixies some fresh chocolate, and we'll have a wonderful afternoon.

pfeh, I want my life back...

I was going to have lunch (sushi, yummm!) with ixlix today. Instead, I have a kid with itchy red bumps expanding upon her body, no idea what the hell they are (the ped says flea bites - I don't think so, since I'm not getting bitten and they're spreading from shoulders and ankles towards the middle). I wish I knew what was going on. I had PT this morning, so was not able to get the ped's office - I'll have to try after their lunch. ixlix says I should just slather her in calamine, and send her off to school. Unfortunately, she's running a low-grade fever, clothes seem to irritate the itching (no, we haven't changed laundry detergents), and she's acting rather peculiarly, at least for her. My kid is not normally a clingy cuddler, unless she's really not feeling well, and right now, she is in an extraordinarily cuddly mood (normal cuddles are 3-5 minutes - she had me trapped on the couch for 45 minutes this morning - until I had to leave for PT). Oh well, I knew the job was dangerous when I took it... Guess I'll go make us some lunch and figure out what I'm making for dinner.... sympathy appreciated, rude comments to /dev/null/...

I can't wait! ...or... S&F starts school next week

Blessed are the SAH mommies of the world, for they put up with more shit than anyone should ever have to!

Made a *giant* mistake this morning - had to get the grocery shopping done so we would have lunch and dinner tonight. Took S&F with me - after all, the playdate is here today, and I'm feeding the kids lunch. Might the kids want something other than bread and water for lunch? Note that S&F is 9 years old, and has a mind of her own... Yesterday was an awful day because she was sleep-deprived - it was so bad that when DH walked in the door, I walked out! She got a good 10 hours of sleep last night, so I'd hoped today would be better. No such luck. Stopped at Western Bagel to get bagels for luch for the kids, S&F some breakfast, and me some coffee (yummy coffee). So far, so good. Went across the street to our local Trader Joe's to grab fresh produce, fresh meat, fresh fruit, cheese, lunchmeat, soymilk and cookies (for her). By 9:30, my good mood was gone - buried under a torrent of whines, and a vanishing shopping cart (I can push, mommy, but it's *cold* over there!)... grrrr!!!

Didn't realize til *after* I got home that some things I needed weren't bought. Will have to make another trip, but I'll be damned if I do it with her in tow!

The playdate has started, so I have some downtime now - someone else can entertain her for a bit... now where did I put that tommy gun?

Blessed be the pharmacists!

Well, now that Small and Feisty is home (with a cold, and driving me nuts!) I get to deal with my stuff, too... My ear has been bugging me since Monday, and after several days of complete non-cooperation from my internist, I got in to see cahwyguy's ENT - turns out that what I have is essentially a bad case of swimmer's ear, which he proceeded to treat (and by seeing him, I probably avoided 10 days of "tin mouth", too). Got a prescription for ear drops, and took it to my local pharmacy. Got a computer-generated call about 30 minutes later that they were out of stock, and would have it tomorrow. Eeek! Need that stuff NOW! Called the pharmacy back, and explained my predicament. Bless the pharm-tech who called the other local stores, and got me a bottle tonight (and only 10 minutes away). Just got back from picking it up. Thank you all. I think I'm gonna go have a talk with her boss in the morning, and compliment him on his attentive and service-oriented staff... drives the retail folks *nuts* when you ask for the manager :-) and then they all just about fall through the floor when you give them a compliment! Random acts of senseless kindness are so much fun! Especially when his staff deserves the compliments!

Make someone's day! Ask to talk to their boss, and then compliment their service (*but only if they deserve it*). Retail managers deal with so much crap, and so many complaints - they should be able to hear from satisfied customers, too!

What A Day!

Whew... glad this day is over! Up at 5 am to get small and feisty off to camp... What's surprising is that both she and I awoke 1.5 hours before our "normal" respective wake-up times without any trouble or general grumpiness! I allowed lots of time to get downtown this morning, because the 101 freeway is always completely unpredictable. So what do we get? A clean drive in rush hour - a nominal 30 minute drive took just 30 minutes, not the hour I'd budgeted for a rush hour drive! (of course, if we'd left later, it would have taken us 3 hours, just to piss me off). I guess the Great Gods of the Highway were being nice to me  because I'm in a rental... you probably heard about *that* from cahwyguy - I was involved in a low speed crash last week with an idiot who spoke no English, had no licence, and no insurance. Second time in 2 years (except last time was a high-speed collision with a drunk that I'm lucky to have survived). I'm getting really tired of this.

{rant on}If Shrub wants to give California (or the entire Gadsden Purchase) back to Mexico, let the rest of us know, please, and we'll leave! Otherwise, it is time to start enforcing our laws and controlling our borders! Wanna sneak a terrorist in? Use the Tijuana check-point. No one will ever know :-( Otherwise, I think it is time to start deporting these people, not giving them driver's licenses, jobs and benefits! And as for the clueless clods who think these clowns give our economy more than they take - pfui - if they're earning 20K (a big stretch) and have three kids, the cost of public school for their kids exceeds what they earn! Send 'em all home (or maybe to the bottom of the Marianis Trench, if Fox doesn't want them). {rant off}

Oh well... with S&F off to camp, I actually get a few days for me! YAY! Now to go figure out something fun to do, besides a day at the salon, a day finishing a quilt, and a day putting half of my office in file13...suggestions for fun stuff welcomed!
